Abstract
The first part of the talk presents parallel computer resources at
the Academic Computer Centre CYFRONET-KRAKOW, main tasks of the ACC,
as well as a number of examples of research activities and international
cooperations.
The second part gives an overview of investigations pursued by the
Parallel and Scientific Group of the Institute of Computer Science AGH.
The Group has gained experience in using vector and parallel computers
as well as heterogeneous networks of workstations for solving different
problems in science and engineering. The research activities were
mainly focused on the following areas:
- development of parallel algorithms based on the particle approach
(molecular dynamics) for investigation of problems of fluid dynamics
at the microscopic level, impact phenomena in solid state, plastic
deformation, penetration, as well as for computer graphics and
visualization;
- development of parallel algorithms based on cellular automata (for
simulation of fluid flows and simple biologic systems);
- parallel algorithms for combinatorial optimization (TSP problem);
- elaboration of parallel finite element programs for metal forming
processes;
- tools for monitoring and performance analysis of parallel programs
running on virtual network computer under PVM;
The talk will conclude with an outline of new projects.
