ABSTRACT: xlinkit is a lightweight application service that provides
rule-based link
generation and checks the consistency of distributed web content. It leverages
standard Internet technologies, notably XML and XLink. xlinkit can be used
as part
of a consistency management scheme or in applications that require smart link
generation, including portal construction and management of large document
repositories.
In this talk I will show how consistency constraints can be expressed and
checked. I
will describe a method for generating links based on the result of the
checks and give
an account of our content management strategy.
BIO: Anthony Finkelstein was appointed to a Chair in Software Systems
Engineering
at University College London in 1997. From 1994 to 1997 he was Professor of
Computer Science at City University, Head of Department of Computer Science
and
Director of the Interoperable Systems Research Centre. From 1985 to 1994 he
was
a member of the research and academic staff at Imperial College of Science,
Technology & Medicine and of the Distributed Software Engineering group.
His research
interests are in the area of software systems engineering and in particular
in management
of complex information in a software engineering setting. He has
contributed extensively
to software specification methods, software development processes,
tool and environment
suport for software development. Recent work has included significant
contributions to
work on specification and to document traceability. Anthony Finkelstein has
published
more than 150 papers in these areas and held research grants totalling in
excess of £6m.
