DAPSYS 2004
5th AUSTRIAN-HUNGARIAN WORKSHOP ON
DISTRIBUTED AND PARALLEL SYSTEMS

in conjunction with EuroPVM/MPI 2004

Budapest, Hungary
September 19-22, 2004

DAPSYS (Austrian-Hungarian Workshop on Distributed
and Parallel Systems) is an international biannual
conference series dedicated to all aspects of
distributed and parallel computing.

DAPSYS 2004 is organized jointly with the 11th
EuroPVM/MPI conference. Participants of the two
events will share invited talks, tutorials and
social events. Contributed paper presentations
will take place in separate tracks in parallel.

While EuroPVM/MPI is dedicated to the latest
developments related to the PVM and MPI message
passing systems, DAPSYS provides an excellent
opportunity for academics and industrial experts
to discuss general aspects of distributed and
parallel systems. In this way, the two events
complement each other and participants of DAPSYS
and EuroPVM/MPI can benefit from the joint
organization.

SCOPE

DAPSYS 2004 is expected to be a major event for
vendors, researchers and teachers to consider
present and future topics in distributed and
parallel systems. Papers presenting original
research, educational methods, new concepts,
and results of international projects are being
sought. Papers describing clusters, cluster
programming, Grid systems and related fields
are especially welcome.

Topics of interest of DAPSYS include but are
not limited to the following:

* Cluster and Grid systems
* Distributed and Grid middleware
* Parallel operating systems
* Parallel and distributed programming
  languages and methodologies
* Parallel and distributed algorithms
* Software engineering and development
  tools, environments for parallel systems.
* Parallel architecture and I/O systems
* Web computing with special focus on
  portals and web services technology
* Java/CORBA systems
* Parallel and distributed databases and
  data mining
* Applications of parallel, distributed
  technologies, clusters and the Grid

PUBLICATION

The proceedings of DAPSYS 2004 will be published
by Kluwer Academic Publichers. A tradition is
that a number of papers are selected to appear
in a special issue of a prestigous international
journal. DAPSYS special issues so far appeared
in Journal of Parallel Computing, Journal of
New Generation Computing, Journal of Parallel
and Distributed Computing Practices. We will
follow this tradition and publish the best papers
in a special issue of the International Journal
of Computational Science and Engineering (IJCSE).

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

Contributors are invited to submit a full paper
not exceeding 6-8 pages in English. The title page
should contain a 100-word abstract and five specific
keywords. DAPSYS 2004 accepts submissions only in
electronic format sent by April 26, 2004 (Extended
Deadline) via a webform at the following URL:

In case of any problems with this submission
procedure, please do not hesitate to contact

dapsys@gup.jku.at

SPECIAL SESSIONS

Two special sessions will be organized:

* Grid Demo Session
   The aim of the session is to explain the
   work of existing Grid systems and to show
   their work by giving live demonstrations.
   Internet connection will be provided.

* P-GRADE Users Session
   The aim of the session is to bring together
   users of P-GRADE and to show the applications
   of P-GRADE.

In case of submission a paper for a special
session, please, indicate the name of the
target special session.

IMPORTANT DATES AND DEADLINES

   Paper submission: April 26th, 2004
   *Extended Deadline*

   Notification of acceptance: May 11th, 2004

CONFERENCE VENUE

The conference is organized in the capitol city
of Hungary, Budapest, which actually consists of
two parts, Buda and Pest, separated by the Danube
River. Each side is unique in itself but
complementary to the other. To the city's west
is hilly Buda vaunting an enchanting Historic
District at its heart. To the east is the vast
and relatively flat Pest, imbued with an historic
pride rooted in trade and commerce.

To truly experience Buda is to walk the historic
streets. The city's Medieval, Baroque and Classical
flourishes, the various monuments have been
meticulously restored. Pest, thanks to its level
terrain and spacious area, is home to numerous
museums that house the nation's greatest art and
historical collections. Add to this Pest's somewhat
cutting edge interest in the arts, and you have an
exciting and oh, so contemporary, city - a superb
complement to her more old fashioned partner Buda,
just across the Danube.
