Problems getting USB webcam to work with dual processor box and w 3cam

Hi Folks,

I've compiled RH 6.1 with a 2.3.29 kernel and apparently made the USB
support work.

Only w3cam complains that it can't open /dev/video and then my system
hard-crashed. 

It also seems to have wrecked my ethernet in the process, but I'll delve
into that
separately.

Is it possible to use a USB/CPiA webcam on a dual processor box at this
point?
