I have seen a reference to your project page on for the webcam mentioned in the subject (http://alpha.dyndns.org/ov511/cameras.html#chipsets), they claim that Trust SpyC@m 100 has is supported under cpia driver, but I can't make it work, no device is recognized when the module is inserted and the usb cable is plugged in. The camera itself does make a beeping sound aknowledging the power from the cable. Can anyone please help me to make this cam work somehow, or at least point me in the right direction to the right drivers/chipset. If they are not 0x553/0x2 it is probably not a cpia camera. If you can look inside without breaking it, post the part number of the chip. ST asics will start with "stv". If I remember correctly, cpia is an stv673. Keep in mind that it is not unusual for oems to change chipsets without changing their part numbers. This causes a lot of confusion, but they don't seem to mind. It is possible that they changed to the 680 because cpia went out of production, although the 680 was designed mostly for still images and streams very slow. The project page for this driver is http://stv0680-usb.sourceforge.net, where there might be a more recent version, and more info on what it best works with. Kevin took over this driver about a year ago, but I don't think it has reached a super stable state yet. If you let him know what you are using and what problems you're having, he might be able to help. Thanks to Blaise Gassend for getting the DMA working! Also, for usb, the "alt" setting is now controllable through the latest cpia-control, and multiple cameras can now work simultaneously on the same USB hub if "alt" is reduced from 3 to 2. This driver is currently only for 2.4.20 (and probably 2.4.19) kernels, and is in CVS at sourceforge in subdirectory kernel-source-2.4, but I'll backport it to work with older 2.4.x kernels soon. (changes in Video-4-Linux occurred in 2.4.19). The latest cpia-control is also in cvs. Please test! (+ cpia-control-0.5) Hi, the improved cpia-1.3.0 driver (for 2.4.x kernels only ...) is now available at http://sourceforge.net/projects/webcam Support for fast DMA access by ECP parallel ports is added, as is support for dumb non-bidirectional ports ("nibble stream" mode). All PC-style parallel ports are finally supported. The USB support is extended to allow the bandwidth (the "alt" setting) to be controlled for multiple camera use on the same usb hub. There is a new release of cpia-control-0.5 to go with this.
