Computational Science is a focus for new research at the University of
Amsterdam (Universiteit van Amsterdam).

The Computational Science Centre Amsterdam (CSA) is a collaboration between
research groups within the University of Amsterdam aimed at the investigation
of complex systems and processes in physics, biology, chemistry, environmental
and earth sciences and antropogenic disciplines (such as engineering, finance
and economy), using simulation and computational techniques.

The development of new methods and techniques to render such processes
computationally tractable, is indispensable to this multi-disciplinary
science.
The common characteristics of systems from the various disciplines will
enhance
our understanding and will ensure an optimal use of the available expertise in
the area of complex systems.

The CSA has several positions open postdoctoral researchers and "AIOs".
(An AIO position is a paid four year appointment as a research trainee with
the explicit aim that a Ph.D. thesis be produced in those four years.)

The following constitutes a very brief listing of the available openings.

For more information, please, consult
http://www.beta.uva.nl/institutes/csa/english/vacancies/
or contact the staff members mentioned.

CSA 1 and 2: positions with the Department of Chemical Engineering; inquiries
to Prof. dr. P.D. Iedema, tel. +31 20 525 5265, email:
piet@chemeng.chem.uva.nl:

CSA 1: AIO position "polymerisation reactors (mixing and rheology)"

CSA 2: AIO position "reactive processing of polymers"

CSA 3: AIO position "multi-grid methods for numerical fluid problems" with
the `Scientific Computing' group; inquiries to: Prof. dr. P.W. Hemker,
    tel. +31 20 592 4108, email: pieth@wins.uva.nl.

CSA 4: Postdoctoral researcher "computer architecture simulation" with the
Computer Architecture & Parallel Systems Group of the Department of
Computer Science; inquiries to: Prof. dr. L.O. Hertzberger,
    tel. +31 20 525 7463, email: bob@wins.uva.nl.

Group of the Department of Computer Science; inquiries to
    Prof. dr. P.M.A. Sloot, tel. +31 20 525 7463, email: peterslo@wins.uva.nl:

CSA 5: Postdoctoral researcher "high-throughput computing"

CSA 6: AIO position "simulation models of light scattering from biological
           cells"

CSA 7: AIO position "reaction-diffusion in lattice Boltzmann models"

    CSA 8: AIO position "large-scale N-body simulation on special-purpose
           systems"

CSA 9: AIO position "modelling and simulation of biological growth
           processes"

Conditions
==========
The information below is indicative and cannot be considered binding.
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------
    All positions are temporary 12 months/year full-time (38 hrs/week)
    appointments, unless otherwise indicated.
Details can vary from one position to another.

    AIO positions
    -------------
The monthly salary will start at dfl 2151 gross, increasing to a maximum
of dfl 3841 gross in the fourth year.
The appointment is for a period of maximally four years and should result
in a Ph.D. A training and supervision plan will be drawn up, stipulating
the aims and content of the proposed research project and the teaching
    obligations involved.

    Postdoctoral positions
    ----------------------
The monthly salary depends on experience and will lie between dfl 4711
and dfl 7250. The appointment normally is for a period of two years.
