apparently I had set up the thing correctly anyway but my vidcat version was
out of date. Ungh.

Kernel 2.3.31 seems to work great, with no errors at all

Is it still necessary to patch the w3cam package with Jorg Martens' patches
or does the current 0.6.2 version have all those patches included?
