This is because the camera only supports ECP and nibble mode.  Nobody
has written the nibble mode code yet because the performance would be
poor.  TRISTATE ports can also be used with 2.3 kernels because they
contain software ECP emulation code.  Your EPP port probably supports
TRISTATE as well.

When you load the parport_pc module it will probe the capabilities of
the port and log them.  Check /var/log/messages or run dmesg just afetr
installing parport_pc.
